Berkeley Lights is a “one product” life sciences tool company selling an overpriced and ineffective machine that its customer base of well-established big pharma companies consider to be virtually useless. On top of key questions around whether the product even works, the company has flattening sales, deteriorating financials, seemingly unending insider selling, and a massively overstated TAM. All of this combines to lead Kir to believe that Berkeley Lights is the latest and greatest wanna-be player in synthetic biology making big promises that it will never deliver on.
